Brandi Carlile gives a wonderful performance fueled by love and life in the music video for her song “You and Me On The Rock.” The song comes from her 2021 record In These Silent Days, which received widespread praise, and in the new music video directed and animated by Drew Tyndell of Computer Team, we see a unique visual stylization of the music. It is a combination of scrapbook-like animations, but all the individual cut out parts are oil paintings. Visually it is striking and allows for a lot of surreal scenes, like the house occupied by Carlile and her wife Catherine being lifted out of the sea by a mound of rocks.

“This song is for my wife, Catherine,” Carlile says in a press release. “When life changed during quarantine and everything that I identify myself by went away, I was left with a question of ‘is what I’ve built my life on really a solid foundation?'”

Carlile’s song is not harping on the common issues of COVID-related isolation; instead, with this song, she struck a balance of making something relevant to the times without dating it too much. She is currently on tour, and on August 20 she will be in Philadelphia at the TD Pavilion at The Mann Center with Allison Russell and Celisse. Tickets and more information can be found at the Concerts and Events page of XPN.org.
