In the five years he’s been on our radar, Philadelphia singer-songwriter Moses Mosima has grown from a guy with a guitar and some heartfelt songs into an artist with a sharply defined creative vision.
Last year, he released a vibrant project called Cul De Sac, which utilizes bright synths, bouncing beats, and Mosima’s emotive voice to paint pictures of the drudgry of suburbia and the adolescent drive to escape. It’s lyrically packed with images of love, drugs, and disconnection, of numbing days riding bikes and thrilling nights where the lights of the city skyline act as a beacon of inspiration on the horizon. Wrapped up in a melange of digital melodies and swift rhythms, Mosima describes his style as “post modern R&B.”
After turning in an impressive set at Philly Music Fest 2021, Mosima and his bandmates are out on the live show circuit again this year, and stopped by WXPN studios for this Key Studio Sessions performance. Performed with guitarist Jeff Scott, bassist Krispy, and drummer Shawn Riley, this raw and revved up set shows a new side of “Cul De Sac,” “Different,” and “Paraphernalia.” Watch below, and look out for Mosima and his band to perform live next month at Dilworth Park’s lunchtime music series.
