West Philadelphia’s Crooks & Nannies is back from a 5-year songwriting hiatus in a big way. The electronic-rock duo announced their new single “control,” as well as tour dates with beloved pop artist Lucy Dacus, the first of which is at Franklin Music Hall on September 29th.

“control” is an older Crooks & Nannies song that the duo re-recorded at Headroom Studios recently. Its message tackles anxiety, specifically, feeling out of control; and with this slow-building, unlikely pop jam, songwriter Madel Rafter finds their power again. On the surface, Rafter admits, “control” might seem humorous, with lines like, “I’m a self-taught purple belt.” “But I often use humor as a way to soften the blow of darker sentiments,” they said in a press release.

“I wanted to capture the feeling of walking through an art museum and holding all of your muscles tightly because if you don’t you might give into some crazy impulse and do something really really bad, like pull a painting off the wall and put your foot through it.”

“control” is available to listen to now, via Grand Jury Records. Tickets for Crooks & Nannies show with Lucy Dacus at Franklin Music Hall are available at the XPN Concerts and Events page.
