Gorillaz, the two decades-running art pop project orchestrated by Damon Albarn, brought its dazzling multi-faceted multi-sensory live show to Philly for two nights at The Met last week.
It was a relatively small space for the band to be performing, its previous Philly visits being at Wells Fargo Center and Festival Pier. And even though their lineup of guests vocalists was more pared down than usual, Gorillaz pulled out more stops than not.
Openers Earthgang joined the band on “Opium” from 2020’s Song Machine; Malian singer-songwriter Fatoumata Diawara came out for that same project’s “Désolé.” The artist most in the mix was Romye “Bootie Brown” Robinson of The Pharcyde, who appeared in one main set selection and two encore songs; Long Island legends De La Soul came out for their parts on the iconic “Feel Good Inc,” and original Gorillaz affiliate Del the Funky Homosapien was on hand to rap on “Clint Eastwood.”
Add into that all the other things you expect from a Gorillaz show — vivid animations, a killer band, Albarn breaking out the melodica — and their stay at The Met more than delivered. Check out photos and the full setlist below.
