Lizzy Goodman talks ‘Meet Me In The Bathroom’ with Kristen Kurtis on the XPN Morning Show
The documentary on NYC’s turn-of-the-millennium indie rock scene screens tonight at the 31st Philadelphia Film Festival.
Rock journalist Lizzy Goodman’s fascinating book Meet Me In The Bathroom: Rebirth and Rock and Roll in New York City 2001–2011 has become a must-read among music obsessives since its 2017 release. An oral history packed with candid and sometimes controversy-stirring interviews, it chronicles the scene that gave rise to The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, LCD Soundsystem, Interpol, and so many others.
Now a documentary film has been made of the book, and ahead of its screening tonight at the Philadelphia Film Society’s 31st Philadelphia Film Festival, Goodman joined the XPN Morning Show’s Kristen Kurtis on air for an interview about the book, the research that went into it, and the music that inspired it.
Meet Me In The Bathroom screens tonight at 6:30 p.m. at PFS East, 125 S. 2nd St., with a dance party to follow at The Khyber Pass, where The Strokes famously played a series of residency shows in 2001; tickets and more information can be found at the Film Festival website.
