We do punk rock well here in Philadelphia. Local power trio Amanda X, who just passed 10 years in the scene, is a great example. The band put out its new single “Carousel” today, and plan to release an EP in 2023.

“Carousel” marks the arrival of a new era for Amanda X, who communicate in a press release that they’re going after a wider audience by smoothing out their edges a bit. “The lovely melodies and honey-tinged singalongs they’ve built their sound on are just as available, but now with wider eyes and more cutting lyrics,” says Amanda X’s North Carolina-based label, Self Aware Records. “Carousel” and more by Amanda X, therefore, presents a best-of-both worlds scenario: punk edge mixed with pop accessibility.

Amanda X opens for Algernon Cadwallader on New Year’s Eve at Johnny Brenda’s. Tickets are available at the WXPN Concerts and Events page.
