Folk artist and longtime XPN favorite Dom Flemons has new music to share. Due March 24th via Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, Traveling Wildfire is a collection of traditional and original folk songs. “The American Songster” is accompanied by producer and multi-instrumentalist Ted Hutt (Lucero), David Hidalgo on drums, Marc Orrell on pump organ, and Matt Pynn on pedal steel.
“Traveling Wildfire is not only a statement of my personal travel experiences but also a metaphor for rebirth in the wake of destruction,” says Flemons in a press statement. “It reminded me that the album is in its own way a statement about emerging from the depths of uncertainty to find a new relevance during this unprecedented moment in modern history. At the same time, the image of the traveling wildfire reminded me of how music and stories can’t travel from generation to generation bringing important lessons from the past into the present and the future.”
Dom Flemons is on tour currently, with unfortunately no Philly date announced yet. However, “The American Songster” is hosting a livestream on March 9th. Check here for more information. And listen to Flemon’s latest single “Slow Dance With You” below.
