Trailblazing American synthpop duo Sparks — staples of sets by WXPN DJs Eric Schuman and Robert Drake — are going on a huge tour this summer, and Philly-area listeners will be treated to a performance from them at the beautifully ornate environs of Glenside’s historic Keswick Theatre. The gig takes place Wednesday, June 28th and goes on sale this Friday, February 3rd, at 10 a.m.
The 29-date tour begins in the UK this May before trekking across Europe, then North America, concluding in Japan in July; the run of shows will support The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte, the band’s 26th studio album, due May 26th on Island Records, which released the band’s iconic Kimono My House in 1974. The band’s Ron and Russell Mael describe the album in a press release as being “as bold and uncompromising as anything we did back then, or for that matter, anytime throughout our career.” More on the new album will be shared later this spring.
Below, revisit a classic from Kimono My House, and find the band’s full 2023 tour itinerary. For tickets and info on the Keswick date, head to the WXPN Concerts and Events page.
