In stark black and white, staring straight at the camera, Suzanne Sheer begins to cry. The singer-songwriter’s music can have that impact on you — whether you’re talking about her sublime 2022 album The Blue Hour, a set of songs that ranged from bright and breezy pop bops to moments of heady electronic soul introspection, or the songs she’s released in the time since.
“Future Past” is her latest, and it falls squarely into the ballad camp, which Sheer excels at; the song burns with heartache and regret, as a piano and guitar score moving couplets about feeling set up for disaster, seeming stuck, and wanting love.
