Brisbane, Australia modern rock / electronic pop outfit Cub Sport was just starting to make waves in North America when COVID hit. In the time since, the band went and released their best album to date, Like Nirvana — read our 2020 interview with frontperson Tim Nelson about it — and the band is shaping up to follow it up with an equally strong body of work called Jesus At The Gay Bar.
Cub Sport has been teasing the new record this winter with “Keep Me Safe” and “Replay,” and the latest single drop for “Songs About It” comes with exciting news; Cub Sport is going on its first North American Tour since 2019, kicking off at The Echo for Hollywood Pride, followed by another LA gig at the Outloud Festival, and making its way across the country, including a Philadelphia stop at MilkBoy on June 25th. Tickets for the Philly show go on sale Friday, March 3rd at 10 a.m., more information can be found at WXPN’s Concerts and Events page.
The new song is a beautiful and high-energy mix of house / ballroom vibes with a swift two-step beat; the peaks and drops are so perfectly timed, one can easily picture turning up in a crowd to this. It’s another promising taste of Jesus At the Gay Bar, which can be pre-ordered here; we’re particularly excited to hear the Shamir-assisted song “High For The Summer” when it releases. Take a listen and check out Cub Sport’s full U.S. tour itinerary below.
