Hurray for the Riff Raff‘s transformative LP Life on Earth and NONESUCH records debut has been out for a year now. To commemorate the occasion, the band is re-releasing a deluxe edition of the album with acoustic tracks and two new songs, “Let Her in the Sky” and “Resistance Rockers,” available to stream now. With the announcement came the premiere of the music video for “Resistance Rockers” directed by Kelly Gallagher.
“Resistance Rockers” describes the feeling of discovering live music for the first time at age 14, and how that experience “saved the life” of songwriter Alynda Segarra. “The video created by Kelly Gallagher features blink-and-you’ll-miss-it footage of little Alynda dancing in a mosh pit in Tompkins Square Park circa 2000,” says Segarra in a press statement. “I wouldn’t have survived my teen years without that energy and inspiration. That’s a feeling shared by many, so I hope the song speaks to your same open-eyed younger self.”
Watch “Resistance Rockers” below, and reminiscence on that feeling so central in the lives of music lovers: the first time perhaps you witnessed a culture in which you belong. Hurray for the Riff Raff comes to Arden, Delaware on July 19th to play Arden Concert Gild’s outside Shady Grove Stage. Soft indie rockers Squirrel Flower open the show, details at WXPN’s Concerts and Events page.
