Buck Meek is gearing up for an album release, as his third full-length solo project Haunted Mountain will be out Aug. 25th via 4AD. The Big Thief member just dropped the album’s second single “Paradise” on June 28th.

Meek announced his new album on May 24th, along with the album’s title track. On Instagram, Meek stated that the song was about “being humbled by the thing you’re drawing power from…” and “…seeking reciprocity with nature.” The haunted mountain in question seems to be Mount Shasta in California, as his friend Jolie Holland wrote the song’s first two verses and choruses about the location. “Paradise” is a whimsical, dreamy track with lyrics that attempt to comprehend death, and what it may look like.

As a guitarist and backup vocalist for Big Thief, Meek shares and heavily contributes to the country undertones found in the band’s music. On the song “Certainty” off of the 2022 goliath album Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You, Meek can be heard mirroring frontwoman Adrianne Lenker with twangy harmonies. The Texan-born artist’s voice is now on full display, hitting tasteful breaks and expressive inflections that could please indie folk and country listeners alike.

So far, a North America tour has not been announced by the singer. However, after revealing the dates for a late-summer EU/UK tour with the band Germaine Dunes, Meek confirmed in the Instagram post’s comments that a US leg will definitely take place after said tour concludes. Haunted Mountain is available for pre-order and pre-save now through Meek’s website.
