Low Cut Connie shows no signs of slowing down their already breathtaking 2023 run. After kicking off NON-COMM in May with an electrifying opening night set, frontman Adam Weiner and the gang hit the studio hard, releasing the infectious “SLEAZE ME ON” on June 6th and now hot off the presses is perhaps their most rambunctious and hard-hitting track to date, “WHIPS AND CHAINS.” The speedy, fuzzed-up garage-rock song sees Weiner going toe to toe with today’s perturbed political environment; calling out Donald Trump and the current wave of neo-fascism, proclaiming “Modern life ain’t all it’s cracked up to be, It’s a full-time job swimming through duplicity.”
Speaking on the inspiration and emotion behind the track, Weiner explains: “We wanna live free in this world, but most of humanity is not free. There are so many systems of oppression and duplicity in this world: race, wealth, technology, religion – they can all be used as tools of oppression. It’s a real pain in the ass, and that’s what the song is about.”
The band’s seventh studio album ART DEALERS comes out on September 8th, and while not every song focuses on the complex ideas of political upheaval, the album stays true to the attitudes and conventions of classic rock and roll. Whether it’s a general distaste for government leaders, a crying plea for a lost lover, or a singable summer anthem, Low Cut Connie does it all, and does it like no one else can.
In addition to the new album, Weiner co-directed an 80 minute feature film that will premiere later in the year as a companion piece to ART DEALERS. The documentary combines footage from a fiery string of concerts shot at Sony Hall and the Blue Note back in 2022, as well as 15 years worth of the personal misadventures that led up to ART DEALERS. The film will only be screened during select dates of their fall US tour, with details on the band’s website. Low Cut Connie returns home this September, playing WXPN’s XPoNential Fest on the 24th.
