Anti-folk idol Kimya Dawson is playing Ukie Club on August 14, supported by Patrice Jetter, Mildred the Lunch Lady, Gab Landrum, and Snugglzs and Jingles. The pop-up show, presented by the 4333 Collective, begins at 5 p.m, and Dawson has reminded fans to bring something to sit on as the performance is located outside of the Ukie Club proper.
Kimya Dawson earned a cult following in the early 2000’s as one half of The Moldy Peaches. Garnering mainstream critical acclaim with their 2001 song “Anyone Else But You”, which was featured in the soundtrack for Juno as well as multiple other indie film scores, the duo continued to release music until their hiatus in 2004. The rendition for Juno, performed by Michael Cera and Elliot Page charted on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2007. With the band’s time off , Dawson began a successful solo career as a lo-fi artist, releasing her debut LP I’m Sorry That Sometimes I’m Mean in 2002, Knock Knock Who? in 2004, and five additional studio albums since. In January of 2023 she released “Follow That Dream”, the lead single from her upcoming I Killed The Monster LP, a collection of covers by outsider artist Daniel Johnston.
Tickets for the concert are available now; more information can be found at WXPN’s Concerts and Events page.
