Their story starts like many others; in 1973 three classmates move to New York City to start a band, one we know now as Talking Heads, today’s #TBTXPN featured artist.
The trio became a quartet in 1976, consisting of the inconic singer-guitarist David Byrne, drummer Chris Frantz, bassist Tina Weymouth, and keynoardist Jerry Harrison. Talking Heads were known to subvert rock by embracing dance rhythms and using the ironic sensibilities of modern art and literature. Their debut album, Talking Heads ’77, shocked many with how well it was received for a band so removed from the mainstream. The art rock outfit’s music reached such a wide audience with their blend of dance club rhythms, and intelligent and anxious lyrics.
Before disbanding in 1991, the Talking Heads would release numerous albums, a concert film, and even a book. Listen all all day to hear B-sides, covers and more! Tune in all Thursday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. at XPN.org.
