Philly duo Korine has spent the past several years incubating a sound that stops you in your tracks: one indebted as much to 80s synthpop as 90s dreampop, one where every emotion feels massive.
Made up of bassist and beat-wrangler Trey Frye and vocalist, guitarist, and sometimes dancer Morgy Ramone, the band released their third LP, Tear, back in February via Philly label Born Losers Records. It’s the strongest vision of the band’s creative vision to date, full of body-moving rhythms, cathartic vocal, and ethereal textures. In this week’s Key Studio Session, Frye and Ramone run us through four of the album’s highlights: the lovelorn romance of “Crystalline” and “Lost In The Dark,” the fierce rocker “Burn The World,” and the dancefloor pulsation “The More I Try.”
Bathed in their trademark blue-light setup, Korine’s performance at WXPN Studios is moody and full of melody; a perfect combination for their upcoming run of shows with Modern English. Watch the performance and check out their tour dates down below — it includes an hometown stop on September 12th at East Passyunk Music Festival — and find out more by giving them an IG follow at @korineband.
