Alternative-pop singer songwriter Margaret Glaspy has released a new single and music video, titled “Get Back.” The song stands as her final single for the upcoming album Echo The Diamond, which comes out this Friday, August 18th, the same day Glaspy performs at XPN’s Free At Noon here at World Cafe Live.

“Get Back” was shared on Aug. 15th, along with a music video directed by Phineas Alexander. The video shows Glaspy in numerous locations within the greater NYC area, enjoying a wide array of activities such as trail running, visiting a local farm, trying tea, and learning to surf. This plays into the song’s overall message of curing your problems by getting out and exploring outdoors, even if it’s just within the place you live. The New York-based musician sings “When you’re dripping in your privilege / You don’t know the difference / Between what you want and what you need,” in the first verse. The chorus states “Get back to the place you started from… get back to what’s good.” We all start from the Earth; it’s also humanity’s cure.

Glaspy’s upcoming album was co-produced by her partner Julian Lage, a masterful jazz-guitarist who debuted on Blue Note Records in 2021 with the album Squint. Glaspy recruited The Bad Plus drummer David King and renowned bassist Chris Morrissey for the album as well. Along with the two prior Echo singles, “Get Back” has a rock edge that compliments the pop-leaning songwriting.

Aside from her Free At Noon appearance, Glaspy will be at Underground Arts on Sept. 29th. Make sure to spin her new album Echo The Diamond this Friday morning before attending this special Free At Noon show at World Cafe Live! To RSVP for the event, visit the Free At Noon page at xpn.org.
