After several years developing their sound and creative vision in Philadelphia, alternative pop singer-songwriter AnnonXL moved to Los Angeles in 2021 to take their music to the next level. Flash forward to this summer when their next phase, the EP SO HORNY THAT I CRIED., released on streaming services. The project is an effervescent soundscape of self-discovery and desire, and Annon packed the house at Johnny Brenda’s this past Friday night in a return to Philly to play the album for their hometown fans.

Joining them on the bill were Aleana, a longtime peer and friend of Annon who delivers a chill and pensive take on R&B / soul, and the new artist Soulpatch. The centerpiece, though, was Annon, and specifically their soaring and elastic voice, which burst with emotion in nimble runs across keys and octaves.
