Listen to what’s new from Big Thief in 2023 on this latest single release. The indie-folk group with an interstellar trajectory have another heart-aching love song on their hands with “Born For Loving You.”
This single release follows Big Thief’s Grammy-nominated double LP Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You in 2022, and guitarist Buck Meek’s Haunted Mountain released just last month. At this rate, it’s not unthinkable to picture Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker, Buck Meek, James Krivchenia, and Max Oleartchik making music as part of their everyday routines.
Like “Vampire Empire,” debuted publicly on The Late Show recently, “Born For Loving You” was a fixture on Big Thief’s setlists during their DNWMIBIY tour (you can read a Philly recap from that tour here; notice “Born For Loving You” doesn’t appear in our setlist because…well, I didn’t know what it was called then).
“Born” works well played for new audiences — if you’re paying attention, it’ll grab you on first listen. “I was born for lovin’ you / Just somethin’ I was made to do / doesn’t matter what dreams come true” sings Lenker in a lifetime narrative song with verses structured like Capacity’s chilling “Mary,” and with all the gravity of Two Hand’s ferocious “Not.”
