Led by Russell Edling and backed by the all-star alt-rock prowess of Philly musicians Melissa Brain, Mimi Gallagher, and Matt Scheuermann, Golden Apples is releasing their fourth full-length album on October 27th via Lame-O Records (whose catalog also includes releases from Hurry, Slaughter Beach, Dog, and Gladie just to name a few). Titled Bananasugarfire, this ten-track record is an unapologetic display of the band’s penchant for hook-forward, ‘90s psychedelia-inspired “college rock,” underscored by Edling’s earnest vocal.
In “Waiting For A Cloud,” the first single off of Bananasugarfire, Edling explores hopelessness, juxtaposed with the relentless human tendency to seek out a cure. The video for the single is chock full of vintage-inspired film footage of an open field, with erratic shifts in focus from delicate flowers to gusts of smoke and fiery intensity, as well as occasional glimpses of the band themselves. This combination of striking, retro visuals and indie pop-rock hooks is a signature move for this local act; yet with each release, their sound takes on a refreshing, unique approach. And, regardless of whether you’ve been a fan of them for a while or are just getting into them, it’s sure to keep you wanting more.
Alongside the album announcement, the band has also released a series of tour dates on the East Coast, including a stop at Khyber Pass Pub on November 17th with Amanda X, Snowhore, and Goshupon.
