Going deep with Mir Fontane
The Camden, NJ rapper talks with Abdur Rahman about his new project ‘Clowns Don’t Cry.’
Mir Fontane has been on a solid path since we first connected with him in 2019. Lately, though, he seems to be on another level, where people from outside the city are looking at him like XXL and 300 Ent. He’s been able to travel all over the world since our first conversation four years ago, he’s played major festivals, performed high-profile opening slots — like earlier this year, when he played with Lil Durk.
Mir is back now with a new project called Clowns Don’t Cry and it’s amazing. It’s hits on deep emotions — personal loss and struggle, as well as faith and finding a way through the hard times. Mir sat down with me to have a candid conversation about the project and the songwriting he did for it, and he reflects on balancing singing and rapping, crafting an album with a cohesive sound, balancing heavy topics with lighthearted delivery, standing up for the women in his life, and more.
Listen to the interview in the player above. Mir Fontane’s You Are Not Alone tour with Caelborate comes to the Foundry of The Fillmore Philadelphia on February 11, 2024. Tickets and more information on the show can be found at WXPN’s Concerts and Events page.
