Joining us in the studio for this Indie Rock Hit Parade session is the energetic trio behind one of this year’s most ferocious albums. Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Cable Ties is guitarist Jenny McKechnie, bassist Nick Brown, and drummer Shauna Boyle. Since their second album, 2020’s Far Enough, got an American release through Merge Records, we’ve been fans of the band’s bracing punk anthems. This summer, Cable Ties released their third LP, All Her Plans, and they stopped by our studios while on tour with labelmates Superchunk to power through a set of new material.
The best way to experience Cable Ties’ performance is by watching the video below via NPR Live Sessions. As the band was warming up, they asked if they could play the first few songs of their set straight through without taking a break, mimicking the high-voltage concerts which just a few days prior had left guitarist McKechnie bleeding from the top of her head (she made a full recovery). The trio breathlessly barrels from “Change” to “Crashing Through” to “Time for You” before drummer Boyle takes a vocal spotlight turn on the closing rave-up “Thoughts Back.”
