When Garret Dutton, famously known as G. Love, released his first album in 1994 with his band Special Sauce, their striking genre-fusion of hip hop, folk and blues placed the trio on the map. The self-titled record went Gold thanks to their hit single “Cold Beverages” being mixed into the MTV rotation. Since then, the Philly native group has built an immersive musical career with seven studio albums, as well as four solo albums from G. Love. They’ve been consistently on the road touring, playing festivals, and collaborating with other big name artists including Dave Matthews Band, Lucinda Williams, Jack Johnson, and The Avett Brothers.
In celebration of the album’s 30th anniversary, the trio are re-releasing that 1994 debut record and embarking on a national tour. They’ll be returning to Philly this January to play City Winery on January 26th and 27th with special guest Jakobs Castle; tickets go on sale this Friday, October 20th, at 10 a.m.. The group will be commemorating this triple decade milestone the entirety of 2024, so keep an eye on G. Love’s tour dates here, and look out for announcements regarding the 30th anniversary edition re-release of G. Love & Special Sauce.
