Sleater-Kinney's "Say It Like You Mean It" video stars 'Succession' actor J. Smith-Cameron - WXPN | Vinyl At Heart

For the latest single from their next album, Sleater-Kinney have tapped a star of Succession for a cinematic, Carrie Brownstein-directed clip.

J. Smith-Cameron, who played Gerri Kellman on the hit HBO drama, appears in a booth of an ornate bar/restaurant, singing along to “Say It Like You Mean It,” a tense and pulsating rocker; she interacts with other patrons who may or may not see her, and dances in the dining room on the instrumental breaks.

In a statement, Brownstein says ““The video tells the story of a woman who’s lost all sense of what’s appropriate. Sick with the alienation that stems from existing in a disparate emotional state from the person or people closest to her, she grapples with debilitating loss, desires to be seen, and dares you to leave.”

Watch below. Sleater-Kinney’s eleventh studio album Little Rope comes out on Loma Vista on January 19th, and can be pre-ordered here. The band’s 2024 tour brings them to the TLA on March 18th, find tickets and more information on the show at WXPN’s Concerts and Events page.
