After a decade-and-a-half hiatus from releasing new music, The Black Crowes have announced their eagerly-awaited album, Happiness Bastards, marking a bold return for these American rock veterans. The album is their first studio offering of new, original material since 2009’s Before The Frost…Until The Freeze. (They re-emerged in 2022 with the covers EP 1972, with live releases like 2013’s Wiser For The Time keeping fans engaged in the years between.) This upcoming album promises a raw and powerful sound, characterized by gritty, authentic rock guitar riffs, and we get a glimpse into that on the first single, “Wanting and Waiting,” released on January 12th.
2024 is shaping up to be a monumental year for The Black Crowes, as they celebrate forty years of their presence in the music industry. Amidst a history of tumult, the band has rekindled their shared passion for rock n’ roll, symbolizing a rejuvenated unity with this new release. The album, set to drop on March 15th through Silver Arrow Records, features ten tracks produced by Grammy award-winning Jay Joyce, and also includes a collaboration with Grammy-nominated country artist Lainey Wilson.
The Happiness Bastards tour travels through thirty-five cities across North America and Europe this spring. A highlight of this tour will be their performance at Philadelphia’s The Met on May 7th. Fans can expect a dynamic mix of new material, deeper cuts, standout covers, and all the beloved classics. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 26th at 10 a.m., more information can be found at WXPN’s Concert Calendar.
