Iron & Wine, the indie-folk project of singer-songwriter Samuel Ervin Beam, has never really slowed down. Over the past few years, he’s released the fifth volume of his vault recordings (Archive Series No. 5: Tallahassee Recordings) and a collaborative EP with Sima Cunningham and Macie Stewart (Lori). He’s also teased Who Can See Forever, a documentary/concert film hybrid, directed by Josh Sliffle. The soundtrack to the movie was released last year, though a streaming release date remains unannounced. And now in 2024, comes Light Verse, the songwriter’s latest via SubPop.
If the first single, “You Never Know,” is any indication, Light Verse will be another stunning expression of Beam’s singing and songwriting talents. Fiona Apple will also appear on the album, offering guest vocals on the track “All in Good Time.” The new record also promises to be Iron & Wine’s most playful to date, counter-balancing the heaviness and anxiety of pandemic-times.
On August 10th, Iron & Wine returns to Philly to perform at the Fillmore. Artist presale tickets go on sale tomorrow, and public ticket sales are available the following day, on the 9th. Light Verse comes out in entirety on April 26th. Check out the lyric video for “You Never Know” below.
