Pearl Jam are back with a new album this spring. On April 19th, the legendary Seattle rock band release their twelfth studio album, Dark Matter, via Monkeywrench Records/Republic Records. The ripping single and title track “Dark Matter,” out now, serves as the album’s first glance.
Pearl Jam’s latest signals big news in the music world–the band premiered Dark Matter in its entirety at West Hollywood’s Troubadour during GRAMMY week. “We’re still looking for ways to communicate,” says singer Eddie Vedder. “We’re at this time in our lives when you could do it or you could not do it, but we still care about putting something out there that is meaningful and we hopefully think is our best work, No hyperbole, I think this is our best work.”
Recorded in just three week, Dark Matter was produced by Andrew Watt (Justin Bieber, Ozzy Osbourne, Cardi B., and many more) and recorded at Shangri-La Studios in Malibu. “We felt like we were about to make a really important record. A lot of that had to do with the atmosphere Andrew set up,” says bassist Jeff Ament. “He has encyclopedic knowledge of our history, not only as a band and how we wrote songs, but as players. He could pinpoint things we did on old songs to the point where I was like, ‘What the fuck is he talking about?’ His excitement was contagious.”
Pearl Jam embarks on a world tour starting this May, and make their way to Philly for two nights at the Wells Fargo Center on September 7th and 9th. Tickets are available at the WXPN Concert Calendar. Listen to “Dark Matter” below.
