The beloved North Carolina folk-rock group The Avett Brothers are preparing a big return to the stage to follow the release of their first new album in five years. Their new self-titled record was produced by long-time collaborator Rick Rubin, the iconic Def-Jam co-founder who has worked with Johnny Cash, Adele, and Jay-Z. Rubin has also produced the last five albums by the Avvett Brothers. Their sixth collaboration will be released on May 17th by Ramseur Records.
They’ve just released the first single, “Love of a Girl” and it’s a fast, fun rock and roll jam reminiscent of 2000’s indie-rock. It eventually builds to a half-time climax that is sure to sound spectacular at one of the group’s upcoming summer shows. The band will open for country star Luke Combs at a few stadium shows and embarks on their own tour in April featuring an impressive roster of openers including Sierra Ferrell, Iron & Wine, and Sammy Rae & The Friends. On May 16th, WXPN welcomes the band to the Mann Center in Philly with opener City and Colour.
