Back for his seventh studio outing is Philly’s own Chris Kasper, who released the record’s first single, “Shuffle On Through,” this week. The track is a warm, laidback groove about perseverance. “Sometimes you gotta break yourself to make yourself somebody new,” croons Kasper.
“Shuffle On Through” is the first preview of Sunlight In An Empty Room, Kasper’s forthcoming LP arriving May 10th. In a press statement, the artist cites inspirations like Bobby Charles, Lowell George, and Neil Young, but also visual artists Edward Hopper and Andrew Wyeth. The latter’s sun-dappled landscapes are a natural setting for Kasper’s easy-going, country sound. Sunlight also features the talents of several musicians of popular country-rock group The Wood Brothers; Brook Sutton joins on bass, Jano Rix on drums, and Oliver Wood himself lends vocals on the song “Getting Right.” And speaking of noteworthy guest appearances: Philly’s G. Love also features on track “Ain’t it a Shame.”
Stay tuned for more from Chris Kasper coming soon. The singer-songwriter will be at Wayne’s 118 North on June 9th (more information at the WXPN Concert Calendar) and the album comes out May 10th.
