Anderson .Paak is one of the smoothest voices in modern R&B and rap but fans have been left craving new music ever since the smash success of An Evening with Silk Sonic, his 2021 collaboration with Bruno Mars. Now he’s back with the news that Why Lawd? is dropping on June 7th. The album will be his second release with NxWorries, his duo with the producer Knxwledge. The pair have been teasing the project slowly since the release of the seductive single “Where I Go” – a soulful collab with H.E.R. They followed it up with “Daydreaming” last summer, a retro romantic throwback. Now comes “86Sentra”, a 90-second reminder of .Paak’s power as an M.C. “I just did the Super Bowl halftime show with the G.O.A.T.’s/Why the fuck would I wanna do a Verzuz?,” he flexes. “That’s like comparin’ Tee-ball to the MLB/Y’all outta your league, we not the same person.”

NxWorries (Anderson .Paak & Knxwledge) - 86Sentra

It’s true: few artists are as busy and multi-talented as .Paak. “86Sentra” references the 2022 Dr. Dre halftime show, during which .Paak hopped on drums to back Eminem’s performance of “Lose Yourself.” In recent years, he’s stepped away from the mic to focus on an endless array of other endeavors. In 2021, he started his own label, APESHIT INC., featuring artists such as the jazz fusion duo DOMi & JD BECK. He’s released his own collection of Vans sneakers and a signature snare drum, while preparing to shoot his directorial debut K-POPS! – set to star the actor and his son. And he hasn’t fully walked away from the stage; he’s been DJing at music festivals as “DJ PeeWee.” The rapper/singer/drummer worried some fans that he was losing interest in music, writing “Moving my talents towards Dj & film!” on his Instagram bio. But .Paak is back, ready to soundtrack your summer with soul.
