A lineup of 71 musicians have just collectively released Musicians for a Free Palestine, available to buy on Bandcamp now. Andy Molholt (Philly’s own Speedy Oritz), Maya Bon (Babehoven), and Raquel Denis organized the project in an effort “to unite musicians together to advocate for a Free Palestine.”
The project is specifically raising money to support citizens of Gaza in receiving eSims, which allows them to activate cellular plans on phones lacking standard SIMs. This provides mobile phone access, which is critical for citizens during this ongoing crisis.
The compilation features many Philly-based artists including Grocer, Eric Slick, Shamir, Friendship, Mannequin Pussy, and more. Other featured artists include Slow Pulp, Frankie Cosmos, Downtown Boys, Deerhoof, and Babehoven. The artists are charging $36 for the project “because the price of a 10 gigabyte 30 day eSim purchased through the instructions provided at gazaesims.com is $34 USD.” In a statement on Bandcamp, they also noted that the site takes a 15% cut from online sales. Each sale of the compilation will allow 1 eSim to be purchased.
