Drag star Sapphira Cristál shares her latest single “Enough” and words of self-love and acceptance on the Morning Show
Cristál will host Philly’s 3rd annual Pride Concert at The Kimmel Center on June 25th.
The fabulous Queen Sapphira Cristál joined Kristen Kurtis on the the XPN Morning Show last week to preview the summer of amazing events she has planned here in her hometown of Philadelphia. The Ru Paul’s Drag Race Season 16 runner-up also gave Kurtis and the morning audience advice on loving themselves and manifesting their dreams. Listen to the full audio to follow along with Cristál’s personal mantra in which she waves her hands up in the air, then wraps them around herself, and says aloud “I truly love and accept myself.” Sapphira Cristál’s new single “Enough” is out now, and so are the dates of her Cristál Ball tour, which wraps in Philly at the Theatre of Living Arts on August 28th and 29th.
…on hosting the Pride Concert with the Philadelphia Orchestra
You know, you put your dreams out there and they just start coming true. I just said, “I want to perform with the Philadelphia Orchestra,” and I remember because I was in the Kimmel Center, actually a couple months ago watching Audra McDonald. And I thought to myself, ‘I really want to perform here.’ And now I’m going to be at The Kimmel Center this summer. It’s really amazing. I just want to say that if it can happen for me… if my dreams can come true, your dreams can also come true. You just need to make them known.
…on the energy behind her recent single “Enough”
I think that people need to realize that we need a lot more love, kindness, and compassion in this world. In life, the easiest way to give that is to start at home. So you gotta give yourself a lot more love, kindness, and compassion. And I want you to know, that though we live in this world of social media that fills people with self doubt and makes people feel like, “Oh, I’m not doing enough, I’m not out there like these people.” Look, first of all, most people will show the best parts of their lives on social media — they don’t show the rest of it. But second of all, you are more than enough where you are, when you are, how you are at any point.
…on what songs get her going
I would love to play “Good As Hell” by Lizzo. It makes me feel great every single time. Do we like gospel music? One of my favorite gospel songs is called “Blessings on Blessings” — it’s by Anthony Brown & group therAPy. And this is one of the songs that keeps me going all the time. I even do a little line dance to it because it’s just so groovy and it makes me feel wonderful. And we can’t leave without a little bit of Beyonce. I really like the “YA YA” song — it’s so fun. I like anything that keeps me up and grooving. And my good friend Monét X Change, who I’m going to be performing with at The Lincoln Center with a show called Sound Cake (June 12), has a new album out as well, and one of my favorite songs from her album is called “Body.”
