After sharing a trailer for his upcoming film Bando Stone & The New World over the weekend, Donald Glover has released a new single, “Lithonia,” under his alter-ego, Childish Gambino. The track falls into relatively new sonic territory for the rapper, trading his usual hip-hop sound for heavy guitars, and leaving much anticipation for the album, which is set to release on July 19. The album serves as a soundtrack for the film, directed by and starring Glover as a man trying to deliver his mail in a dystopian society full of monsters, lasers, and…dinosaurs.
In addition, Bando Stone & The New World is reportedly the final album Glover will release as Childish Gambino. Glover has been teasing the end of Childish Gambino since 2017, and although he’s released several hits since then, it seems that the last Childish Gambino album may finally be upon us.
He will host a special interactive listening party for the album on July 6 in New York, giving fans an exclusive chance to hear the new album ahead of its release. Childish Gambino will also embark on an expansive tour in August, complete with a stop in Philadelphia. He will perform at the Wells Fargo Center with Willow on August 21; more information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
