Now that it’s July — how has 2024 already gone so fast? — we’re recapping your favorite XPN videos of the year so far.
We’ve been enjoying the Leeds post-punk group’s latest release, Where’s My Uptopia in May, and we’re glad you are, too. And “Down By The Stream” is only 1/4 of Yard Act’s live in-studio session recorded in February; check out all songs out now.
We’re not sure the world, or our audience for that matter, was fully prepared for the ferocity unleashed that is Mannequin Pussy’s I Got Heaven, but you all fully embraced it. This iconic performance captured Mannequin Pussy playing songs from the new record on the day it was released and before long run of sold-out shows all over the country.
These live on-air tapings are so fun: we’ve recorded a few this year to look forward to, including one with the 24 Hour Song Challenge winner Khalil Amaru coming soon. In this video, Dave Wakeling of The English Beat stopped by to perform their hit “Save It For Later” for Mike V and the midday audience before performing at Philly’s City Winery that evening.
In this special interview/performance hybrid video, indie singer-songwriter Sarah Jarosz talks to World Cafe’s Raina Douris and performs her new album Polaroid Lovers recorded live at Free At Noon. This style video, with interview and performance, is a seamless and popular choice, as you’ll see in the next video as well.
And finally, Waxahatchee joined us at XPN for a World Cafe session in March that we were so proud to share along with the release of her spectacular new record Tigers Blood. You’ll remember this one come November/December when we’re all making lists of our favorite records of the year. For now, these were some of your favorites of the year so far.
