If you’re watching the local electronic scene right now, you’re watching Body Meat. The Philly-based, Colorado-rooted artist is a DJ, producer, singer, rapper, and all-around one-man-rave whose mathy grooves have been entrancing Philly’s underground for over half a decade now.
Starchris, his debut album for Partisan Records, comes out August 23rd – recently, he shared the new single “Electrische,” a brilliantly produced piece of ambient-pop-techno. The ridiculously hard kicks and mumbly autotune call to mind the works of experimental rap producers like Injury Reserve’s Parker Corey – fitting, as Corey directed the track’s strange music video, which sees (I think?) Body Meat just kinda walking around somewhere in (again, I think?) Philadelphia as the camera stretches out horizontally into a mess of lines and light. It’s maybe not the Body Meat track you’d wanna play at a rave, but it’s certainly the one you wanna hear while you’re watching the sun come up on the bus ride home.
