Following the break-up of New Jersey alt/punk DIY heroes Screaming Females, frontwoman Marissa Paternoster is back to releasing music under her solo moniker NOUN. An ongoing project, Paternoster has been recording and performing as NOUN since she was sixteen, continuing to release music under the name throughout the 18-year run of Screaming Females. Longtime companion and collaborator Phillip Price now joins her on their two-song single, Wanted/Consumed, released this week.
The accompanying music video for “Wanted” is equally brash as it is delicate. Serene clips of greenery cut in between clips of Paternoster and Prince playing, mirroring the break towards the end of the track when Paternoster’s vocals take on a haunting tone before building into a guttural scream. “Consumed” is every bit as gritty as “Wanted,” indicating that Paternoster’s signature explosive sound will live on through her newest project.
NOUN will be playing a run of shows across the US, starting with three dates in New York and New Jersey. Find the full list of dates below.
