Diehard XPN listeners will remember Lone Justice. The LA band made major waves in the late 80s at the crossover of country and college rock. Led by Maria McKee, who later had high-profile appearances on the Counting Crows debut August and Everything After and the movie soundtrack to Pulp Fiction, formed in 1982 and disbanded just five years and two LPs later. But now – after almost 40 years – the group announced Viva Lone Justice with a new single.
Created by the original lineup, Viva Lone Justice includes frontwoman McKee, guitarist Ryan Hedgecock, bassist Marvin Etzioni, and late drummer Don Heffington, who passed away last October. Viva Lone Justice will be released on October 25 via Afar.
“Jenny Jenkins” / “Teenage Kicks” dropped digitally Monday after a prior 7” release. The former is a traditional song also performed by Lisa Loeb, Jerry Garcia, and others. The latter song, a cover of the classic Undertones song, gets a punk-y makeover with McKee’s powerful voice and some pretty impressive shredding.
