Can you believe that King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will be releasing their 26th album this week? As if that wasn’t enough for the ever-restless, always-grinding band, they’ve shared a final preview of the album with their new single “Field of Vision.”
However, “Field of Vision” wasn’t always destined to be on the record. While the song came together quickly in the studio, frontman Stu Mackenzie shared that lead guitarist Joey Walker had a change of heart shortly after. “Myself and Amby [Ambrose Kenny-Smith] (who loved it) spent the next two days in the studio laying down our vocal parts and overdubs, trying to save it. We dubbed in the guitar-solo-type-section with parts chopped up from outtakes and added a blown out guitar solo… we printed the tape and sent it to him with a note saying, “pleeease man, this has gotta be on the record.” Joey obliged (but not until after he redid all of his parts). Groove restored,” shared Mackenzie in a press release.
Out this Friday, August 9, Flight b741 will be the band’s first release on their new p(doom) records imprint. The six-piece band will also be taking the record on tour, playing at The Dell Music Center on August 27. More info at XPN’s Concert Calendar.
