The Linda Lindas are one of the most exciting bands releasing music today, and I say that wholeheartedly. Only teenagers, the quartet have established themselves as a new pop-punk band to watch, and are gearing up to release their second album, No Obligation. The latest release from said album,“Yo Me Estreso” is a genre-blending feat, fusing Latin music styles with their signature punky pop sound. Half Asian and half Latinx, The Linda Lindas are made up of sisters Lucia and Mila de la Garza, Eloise Wong, and Bela Salazar.
Never one to shy away from relatable lyrics, “Yo Me Estreso” is a song that dives into stress and anxiety. “[It’s] a song about always being stressed, always being anxious and thinking that people are mad at you when they really aren’t,” shares guitarist and vocalist Bela Salazar of the track, “It was inspired by listening to a lot of corridos tumbados, banda and Duranguense and doing that in our own punk style.”
The track’s accompanying music video is a circus-themed affair with the band decked out in full clown outfits. There’s sword-throwing, wonky mirrors, and… Weird Al, who is briefly featured playing an accordion, blending into the colorful, slightly chaotic, video.
No Obligation comes out on October 11 via Epitaph Records. The Linda Linda’s are currently on tour with Green Day, and though their opening set in Philly got rained out, they were brought onstage during Green Day’s headlining set; see video here. They’ll be back in PA on September 2 at Hersheypark Stadium with the legacy band, more details here.
