Tuareg rocker Mdou Moctar and his eponymous band have had a busy year. In May, they released Funeral for Justice, a fantastic follow-up to 2021’s Afrique Victime. They’ve been touring the globe all year, including an impromptu show Agadez, Niger, in January. You can check out a recording of the show in The Agadez Folders: Live at the Sultan’s Palace.

The band plays a killer set in front of the Sultan’s Palace alongside Tuareg dancers, choreographed swordfighters, and about 15-20 camels. With stars like Taylor Swift and Beyonce pulling in impressive numbers at the box office and Stop Making Sense being re-released, it seems like we’re in a bit of a concert-film resurgence these days; The Agadez Folders arrives at the perfect time, and unlike those other snoozer concert flicks, this one has swordfighting in it, which makes it the best concert film to check out right now.
