Tue. 8/20: Washed Out at Union Transfer

Much like the name would suggest, Washed Out have a downbeat, slightly faded, electronic vibe. The epitome of chillwave, their music ranges from synth-heavy and psychedelic to jazzier mashups that, above all, invite a sense of calm. The project of producer and multi-instrumentalist Ernest Greene, Washed Out’s Notes from a Quiet Life came out earlier this year. Charlie & Margot (don’t be fooled, it’s the solo project of Matteo DeBenedetti) will open. // 8 p.m., $35, AA – E.Z.P.

Wed. 8/21: Childish Gambino at Wells Fargo Center

Have you noticed that Childish Gambino looks an awful lot like Donald Glover? Just kidding, I know they’re one and the same. From his start as a comedian/rapper, Childish Gambino has become one of the most creative and innovative artists of his generation. Most recently, he dropped Brando Stone and The New World, the studio and soundtrack album accompanying his upcoming film of the same name. With news circling that this is Glover’s last tour as Childish Gambino, there’s all the more reason not to miss his show at Wells Fargo Center this Wednesday. WILLOW will open for an all-around spectacular show. // 8 p.m., $49.50 and up, AA – E.Z.P.

Fri. 8/23: Super Infinity at Johnny Brenda’s

The newest project from Philly songwriter Rob Grote, Super Infinity is a lowkey, one-man acoustic act that’s just as thoughtful and emotional as his work under other aliases (surreal solo work as Goat Mumbles, charged rock in a long stint leading The Districts). Pine Barons and Brian Meitz open. // 8 p.m., $12, 21+ – Claire Brown

There are bands that have a grip on the Spotify and TikTok charts; Wallows has a strangehold on them. They may be incapable of not writing viral hits. Wallows – Calling After Me (Official Video)

Sat. 8/24: Pissed Jeans at Anchor Rock Club

When I was a kid I used to play Pissed Jeans in the car while my Dad drove me to school. I’d thrash around in the passenger seat with animalistic fury. A few times I hit my head on the dashboard while headbanging to Why Love Now. That was seven years ago; now, they’re touring in support of their comeback record Half Divorced, and I’m looking forward to denting my cranium on the Anchor Rock Club barriers in the exact same spot. //8 p.m., $15, 18+ – C.B.
