I’m happy to announce that I’m currently in a delusionship with the Folk Bitch Trio. The Melbourne group has only been around for a couple of years, yet has garnered the attention of Phoebe Bridgers, who called them “Boygenius if it was from the ‘40s.” Heide Peverelle, Gracie Sinclaire, and Jeanie Pilkington’s swelling music and gorgeously layered harmony is beyond captivating.
Last week’s release of “God’s A Different Sword” shook me. The song’s exploration of female friendship and love, the lengths one will go for those close to them, is brutally honest yet understanding. The video shows Peverelle, Sinclair and Pilkington just being girls – horsing around in an apartment or at an arcade, always together.
Though they’ve yet to release an EP or LP, Folk Bitch Trio has a few no-skip singles to check out. Go listen to “Analogue”, which Rolling Stone named a Song You Need To Know, and “Friendly Neighbour”, a collaboration with Bones and Jones from 2022.
Watch out the video below – seriously, check it out.
