Australian hard rock group Amyl and the Sniffers are coming for you. The Melbourne band consisting of vocalist Amy Taylor, drummer Bryce Wilson, guitarist Declan Martens, and bassist Gus Romer are releasing their third studio album, Cartoon Darkness, on October 25th via B2B Records and Virgin Music Group.
Amyl and the Sniffers released “U Should Not Be Doing That” in May, which appears on the record along with “Chewing Gum”. The album was recorded at the Foo Fighters’ 606 Studios — fittingly, they also opened for Foo Fighters with a killer set at Hersheypark Stadium this summer — and was produced by Nick Launay. It will be an exploration on all things current, from the rise of AI to the climate crisis to “Big Tech, our modern-day god”, as Amy Taylor wrote in a statement. “Cartoon Darkness is driving headfirst into the unknown, into this looming sketch of the future that feels terrible but doesn’t even exist yet. A childlike darkness. I don’t want to meet the devil half-way and mourn what we have right now. The future is cartoon, the prescription is dark, but it’s novelty. It’s just a joke. It’s fun.”
As for the newest single? It’s a gritty, punky, definitely fun story of self-infantilization and the destruction of oneself within a relationship. Check it out (as well as the Cartoon Darkness tracklist) below.
