After much anticipation and several teasers on Instagram and x/Twitter, Brit rock icons Oasis have announced that brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher are getting the band back together.
This morning, the band announced LIVE ’25, a major series of summer shows in the UK and Ireland, and their first concerts together in over 15 years. “This is it, this is happening,” an Instagram post stated simply. The schedule is made up of two dates at Cardiff Principality Stadium in Wales on July 4th and 5th of next year; four dates at their hometown of Manchester’s Heaton Park on the 11th, 12th, 19th, and 20th of July; four dates at London’s Wembley Stadium on the 25th and 26th of July and the 2nd and 3rd of August; two dates at Edinburgh’s Murryfield Stadium on the 8th and 9th of August; and two dates at Dublin’s Croke Park on the 16th and 7th of August.
There’s been much speculation about this final Tuesday in August. Oasis’ website had depicted a simple black screen with a golden date – 27.08.24. Liam Gallagher teased the return of Oasis by playing the entirety of the band’s debut Definitely Maybe at Reading and Leeds, dedicating “Half The World Away” to his brother, and chiming in online that he “never did like that word FORMER.” And who can blame him?
Following their international success with albums like Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, Oasis continued to enjoy commercial success despite interpersonal issues. Frontmen and brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher began canceling shows in the late aughts, with Noel quitting minutes before a set at Rock En Seine 2009 – just over fifteen years ago. He cited issues with his brother as his reasoning, stating on the website that “I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.” The remaining members, including Liam, went on to work as Beady Eye and disbanded in 2014, while Noel continued to work with former Oasis members as Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
So what changed?
Maybe it was the fans, or maybe the money to be made. Maybe time really does heal all wounds. As Brooklyn Vegan notes, in a recent promo video for a Definitely Maybe reissue, Noel Gallagher had nice stuff to say about his brother: “I can’t sing Cigarettes & Alcohol, Rock’n’Roll Star and all that. I don’t have the same attitude as him. My voice is half a Guinness on a Tuesday — it’s all right. Liam’s is ten shots of tequila on a Friday.” Tickets are on sale this Saturday, August 31st, at Oasisnet.com.
The rumor mill leading up to the announcement speculated about a Glastonbury slot next year as well, but the band’s announcement states “*These dates will be the band’s exclusive European appearances,” seemingly putting that story to rest. Likewise, the same rumor mill was offering an array of potential North American dates that did not materialize. Not yet, anyway; a press release states “Plans are underway for OASIS LIVE ’25 to go to other continents outside of Europe later next year.”
