Soccer Mommy is hitting the road – both literally and figuratively. Earlier this week, Sophie Allison, better known as Soccer Mommy, released a new single, “Driver.” The third release from her upcoming album Evergreen came alongside an expansive tour announcement, covering North America and Europe. The indie-rock singer will stop at Philadelphia’s Union Transfer next January.
Whereas her previous singles “M” and “Lost” were more subdued tracks, “Driver” has a building, driving beat (pun intended). It’s a grungy and rocky song, with guitars that mimic the revving of engines. According to Allison, “Driver” is “a love song that’s really about someone being there for you in spite of your shortcomings. It’s more light hearted than some of the other songs I’ve put out this year, using my distractedness as a bit of a punchline.” It’s a goofy and heartfelt song about loving someone despite their flaws… and about Allison getting lost while driving.
Evergreen comes out October 25, via Loma Vista Recordings. It’s an album that returns to Soccer Mommy’s roots, with raw and honest lyrics that reflect on loss. Stripped-back instruments round out the record, reminiscent of Soccer Mommy’s earlier works.
She will play at Union Transfer early next year, on January 25. Check out the full list of dates and find more information here.
