Sunday 9/15: Laura Jane Grace at Anchor Rock Club
While not coming to Philly directly, punk icon Laura Jane Grace will be playing in Atlantic City at the Anchor Rock Club. A compelling force on stage, her shows are not one to miss. Best known as the founder and lead singer of Against Me!, she’s been focusing more on her solo work since the pandemic. Blending personal narratives with activism, Grace’s songs are a thrilling display of country and folk-rock-infused punk. Taylor Hollingsworth will open. // 8 p.m., $29.50, 18+ – Emma Zoe Polyak
Tuesday 9/17: The National and The War On Drugs
Get ready for a legendary line-up this Tuesday! Rock veterans The National will be playing with Philly’s own psychedelic rockers The War On Drugs as part of their co-headlining Zen Diagram tour. The tour comes alongside The War On Drugs’ live album, released September 13, and follows successful solo tours for each band. Tuesday 9/17: Magdalena Bay at Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia
Synth and electropop duo Magdalena Bay are nothing if not theatrical – just look at their music videos! Made up of singer-songwriter Mica Tenenbaum and multi-instrumentalist Matthew Lewin, Magdalena Bay recently released their sophomore album, Imaginal Disk. With a sound that swings from psychedelic and dreamy to rock-infused futuristic tracks, Magdalena Bay’s set is sure to be top notch. They’ll be joined by Mexican psychedelic-pop band Valgur at Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia. // 8 p.m., $65.59 (verified resale), 21+ – EZP
Wednesday 9/18: Stars at The Stone Pony
Canadian indie pop/rock band Stars released From Capelton Hill in 2022, and the deluxe version last year, but their current tour is in celebration of another album: their classic Set Yourself On Fire. Released in 2004, the band are celebrating the album’s 20th anniversary with a run of shows around the US. Asbury Park will be the first stop of their tour, making for an exciting evening. If you miss them on the 18th, fear not! The band will play in Philly at Union Transfer on the 21st. // 7 p.m., $35 and up, AA – EZP
Wednesday 9/18: The Sisters of Mercy at The Met Philly
Self-proclaimed rock’n’roll band, pop band, and industrial groove machines, The Sisters of Mercy are an English outfit that formed in the 80s. Having gone through a couple of live line-ups, their current roster includes frontman Andrew Eldritch, Ben Christo, Kai, and Chris Catalyst, and they’ll headline The Met this Wednesday. // 8 p.m., $48.60 and up, AA – EZP
Thursday 9/19: Rapsody at The Foundry
Marlanna Evans, better known as Rapsody, is playing as The Foundry this Thursday. The North Carolina rapper recently returned from a four-year hiatus with her album Please Don’t Cry. She’s worked with artists such as Erykah Badu, Lil Wayne, Anderson .Paak, and Niko Brim. Niko Brim will join her on tour, along with R&B artist LARA’. // 9 p.m., $31, AA – EZP
Thursday 9/19: Ivy 2 at Open Sound Lansdowne
Open Sound Landsdowne is hosting free outdoor concerts every Thursday in September. This week, local synthpop artist Ivy 2 will be performing. Their songs lean into uptempo electronics, making for an exciting live show. Michael Cormier and Benny P will join her. If you haven’t been to Open Sound before, don’t worry, the vibe is casual and welcoming. This year, the shows will be hosted in the alley next to Scrappy Cat. Friday 9/20 through Sunday 9/22: XPoNential Music Festival
Last, but certainly not least, we have XPN’s annual music festival. Held just across the Delaware River at Wiggins Park in NJ, XPoNential Music Fest will be a weekend to remember. With a stacked lineup of local and international artists, each day provides an exciting list of musicians to see. And you’ll be able to catch them all! Performances will bounce between two stages, giving you the opportunity to see all the artists you want, from Velvet Rouge to Rosanne Cash and Guster.
