Euphoria Again is the long-running dream folk project of John Klein, a Philly-area singer-guitarist you might recognize from his roles in the atmospheric indie band Knifeplay, and the Grateful Dead worship band Friends of Jerry. The primary outlet for his own songwriting, Euphoria Again releases its third full-length album, Waiting On Time To Fly, via Born Losers Records on November 15th.
This week, the band shares two pieces of news: a live performance video for “Waiting On Time To Fly,” taped at dusk on top of a tractor parked in a Bucks County farm, and they’ve released details for their album release party this December.
The video is dressed in dim light and hushed atmospheres; captured with two microphones, it sounds raw, intimate, and radiant with natural beauty. Klein tells us over email that the location was his girlfriend’s parents’ retired farm near Quakertown, “which is full of busted-down cars, dump trucks, old built from Scratch tractors, a pole barn her mom built with no experience and a massive lawn that takes days for her dad to mow.” It’s a DIY way of living he finds inspiring, and he wanted to capture it on, with the help of filmmaker Drew Saracco, who has worked with artists like Tierra Whack, Kurt Vile, and St. Vincent.
“I think the goal here was to capture some of these songs that have a spacious Americana feel in a place that reflects that back,” says Klien. “Can’t go wrong out in the country sitting on a John Deere at sunset.”
