Lately I can’t stop listening to The Magazine, the stunning new project by Philly-area singer-songwriter Zinadelphia. Wrapped up in lush, stylish retro pop tones in the spirit of Nancy Sinatra and Gloria Gaynor, and packaged gorgeously in the aesthetic of glossy 70s fashion magazines, the six-song EP is incredibly catchy, and lyrically haunting. Songs take on topics like longing and betrayal, body dysmorphia, and predatory peers in creative spaces; they also dive into love, family, and the bonds of friendship with an equal degree of heart on the sleeve. At the center of it all is Zinadelphia’s powerful, dynamic voice which soars with melodic grace and just the right amount of grit; a little bit Lana, a little bit Amy, and very much the voice of a rising star.

As Zinadelphia prepares to head out on her first headlining North American tour — in compact trio form, backed by multi-instrumentalist Peter Enriquez and drummer Kobi Abcede — she stopped by WXPN studios to give us a taste of The Magazine on The Key Studio Sessions. “Knock The Wind” and “Love Over Glory” are gnarly disco-funk bangers primed to pack the dancefloor; in contrast, but equally moving, is the torch song balladry of “Advice From Ray,” which closes the set by paying homage to those who shape us and guide us on our paths in life.

Watch Zinadelphia’s full performance and check out photos from her Key Studio Session below; she kicks off tour tonight at the Fox Cabaret in Vancouver before heading south and east, ending on a sold out homecoming headliner at The Foundry of The Fillmore Philadelphia.
