Beth Gibbons is known for having one of the most distinctive and mesmerizing voices in music.
Fans of Portishead know all too well that it’s been over 15 years since the band last released an album (2008’s Third). Beyond that, they have intentionally avoid the spotlight. News in 2013 that Gibbons was recording solo music soon faded into the ether.
But earlier this year, Gibbons announced that she’d finally finished that record. Released to critical acclaim, Lives Outgrown is a different beast than the work of her old band, with more folk elements than electronic ones. The album’s also just been nominated for the Mercury Prize.
Today, we’re diving into a mini-concert from Beth Gibbons, recorded at the Royal Albert Hall in London with an eight-piece band.
