There’s one special event every bleak and dreary winter that keeps us warm through the season, and it’s the WXPN annual 885 Countdown. This year, we’re counting down the best songs of the 21st Century so far, and here are just a few of the artists from your lists who have made the countdown in the 800s. Stay tuned in on the air and keep your eyes peeled to the playlist for the full picture.

Low Cut Connie- Full Set (NON-COMM 2023)

It’s no surprise that station favorites Low Cut Connie are represented on the countdown at #865 for their song “Boozophilia” from 2012. We expect to hear from them later in the list as well, maybe one from their NON-COMM ’23 set? Watch below for performances songs from their album ART DEALERS.

Jenny Lewis – Full Set (2022 XPoNential Music Festival)

One of our all-time greatest headliners of XPoNential Music Fest, Jenny Lewis, is also coming in early in the countdown. Perhaps you heard “She’s Not Me” from her 2014 album Voyager on the countdown. If not, Lewis opens her set with that very song in the performance below.

Big Thief – “Masterpiece” recorded live for World Cafe

Big Thief, the Brooklyn-based indie band, have come a long way since “Masterpiece,” the title track of their debut album. But it was clear there was something special about this band from the beginning. “Masterpiece” came in at #871 on the countdown.

Fontaines D.C – “Jackie Down the Line” (Recorded Live for World Cafe)

Currently on a victory lap with their breakthrough album Romance, Irish post-punk group Fontaines have had quite the year. But this one from 2022’s Skinty Fia goes hard, and so does #881 in the countdown, “Boys In The Better Land” from Dogrel.
